The Yorktown (Virginia) Centennial was held in 1881 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the last important battle of the American Revolution War… the surrender at Yorktown. Sousa (at the time leader of the U.S. Marine Band) composed a march for the event and dedicated it to Colonel H.C. Corbin, master of ceremonies of the centennial.
The same march was also reprinted in 1900 under the name “Sen-Sen” as part of a promotion of the T.B. Dunn Company of Rochester, NY (a subsidiary of the Sen-Sen Chicklet Company).
