I would like the piano music for the song “Fall Tenderly, Roses”, written in 1869, by John Phillip Sousa when a teenager..
It is recorded on an LP record–“On Parade’ put out by The National Geographic Society several years ago. Arranged and played on the piano by William Pursell.
Thank you for the information about Fall Tenderly, Roses,
piano sheet music by John Philip Sousa.
I had tried to contact the Pursell located on the internet.
I received no answer, so contacted the Library of Congress.
I’m not able to open any of the information you indicated.
Box 15/7, and Box 42/17.
I live in California and will not be in Washington D.C. in the
forseeable future. My age does not allow travel.
I have recently reached out to a musicologist @ LoC regarding your query into “Fall Tenderly, Roses” and am waiting for a reply. It’s doubtful the late Mr. Pursell’s arrangement is commercially available and I’m unsure if Mr. Sousa’s original manuscript can be copied; however, I choose to be optimistic as we wait.
Good news….I’ve heard from senior musicologist Loras Schissel @ LoC who graciously copied Mr. Sousa’s original manuscript for you; however, this forum precludes me from directly forwarding it to you. Please find my email address below to contact me at your convenience.

I have been unable to find Mr. Pursell’s arrangement available online. The original score is shown to be part of the Sousa Collection at the Library of Congress but that is all I’ve found: https://findingaids.loc.gov/exist_collections/ead3pdf/music/2023/mu023002.pdf
